FIS OFFICIALS IN TOWN SEPTEMBER 13-14 TO REVIEW VAIL VALLEY’S 2013 WORLD ALPINE SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS BID

    VAIL, Colorado—
An eight-member delegation from the International Ski Federation (FIS) will travel to the Vail Valley this week to conduct the official inspection for Vail and Beaver Creek’s 2013 World Alpine Ski Championships bid.

Scheduled for Thursday, September 13, and Friday, September 14, the group will inspect the proposed racecourses for the 2013 Championships, while also visiting the various facilities and venues that would host the lodging and support functions for the event.

“This is an extremely important part of the overall bid process,” explained Ceil Folz, president of the Vail Valley Foundation. “While many of the members of the FIS delegation are very familiar with Vail and Beaver Creek, they have not been briefed on our plans for the 2013 Championships.”

Following the conclusion of this inspection, the delegation will compile a report that will be distributed to the 17 voting members of the FIS Council. The inspection team has also conducted similar visits to the three other 2013 alpine sites: Schladming, Austria; St. Moritz, Switzerland and Cortina, Italy.

Heading up the inspection team will be FIS Secretary General Sarah Lewis, along with men’s World Cup Race Director Guenther Hujara, women’s World Cup Race Director Atle Skaardal and European Broadcasting Union (EBU) representative Ingolfur Hannesson.

In addition to the FIS inspection team, U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) President & CEO Bill Marolt, Alpine Director Jesse Hunt, Vice President of Events Calum Clark and Vice President of Members Services and Communications Tom Kelly will travel from Park City, Utah for the inspection.

“Vail and Beaver Creek’s bid for the 2013 World Alpine Ski Championships is a very important initiative for USSA,” offered Marolt. “We fully intend to support this candidacy in any way we can.”

The vote for the 2013 World Alpine Ski Championships will take place May 29 of 2008 at the FIS Congress in Cape Town, South Africa.
